Rose Rambler: 9th May 2024. Mulch Your Garden

10th May 2024

Hello Dear Rose Friends,

As we enter the last month of autumn, we are blessed by glorious colour all around us in the gardens here at Clonbinane and, of course, those parts of Victoria where our State is particularly beautiful – most especially when the sun shines too!

As customers alight from their cars they’re gasping at the sight of magnificent roses in bloom and still so very healthy! They welcome a walk in the gardens to enjoy the beautiful colours and sniff the last rose fragrance for this season …

For those who can’t visit, here’s a sneak peek ..

SPECIAL INVITATION ... HAVE A GIGGLE!

Last week we received an invitation to a nudist wedding and Diana has spent all week looking for appropriate clothes for us to wear … any ideas?

MULCH YOUR ROSE GARDEN ...

There are hundreds of reasons why you should maintain mulch on the garden – most especially, I guess it’s about retaining top soil in this country where our soil is considered the oldest in the world and we are the custodians to maintain this precious commodity.

Here at Silkies Rose Farm, which is located immediately beside the Sunday Creek, we expend many dollars and man-hours to ensure our gardens are always well mulched in order to retain as much moisture before it runs to the creek. It’s also imperative that we retain all the infrastructure and soil microbes to grow a healthy garden.

Prior to winter, we’ve added light layers of pea straw to garden beds and eucy-mulch along the paths.

Diana designed this garden whilst speaking with ABC crew when they filmed our story last year – take a look at the video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgywO8Jhqbk
