Prepare Your Garden for Bare Rooted Roses

Hello Dear Rose Friends,

Happy Australia Day! This is the last long weekend break until Easter so we trust you have a great time with family and friends right before the kids start going back to school this coming week.

The second month of summer comes to an end and how super lucky our roses have been that it hasn’t been a dreadfully scorching hot summer… yet! February is usually the most challenging month for gardeners so be sure to turn the tap on and deep soak your roses with at least 10 litres each time you water. If you have reticulated water then offer your roses watering at least twice a week (20 litres per rose per week delivered over two waterings)

If you’re planning a new rose garden this year, now’s the time to get out with your camera and take pictures of roses. Remember, when you take a pic, always follow through with a photo of the plant label so that when you get to visiting us for advice on planning your garden, you’ve got the plant name right.

Rose garden design is something Diana truly enjoys so bring your ideas, pics and rough dimensions – no need for architect drawings! Be inspired by a walk in our gardens, this is our FREE SERVICE offer to you.

Our gardens are now being named with these sturdy Tagged 4 Life labels which make visiting our gardens a true delight and without myself or Diana walking with you, you’ll know which rose you’re enjoying!

Perhaps you would like to name all the roses and special plants in your garden – take a look at Tagged 4 Life and create your own set of labels.

We’re thrilled with the quality and will definitely remove all the current ‘cow tags’ in favour of these smart, sturdy name tags for our garden!

A giggle for you ...

Q: Do you fish go on holidays?

A: No, because they're always in school

Sensational Rose Bundle

Whilst in the nursery watering earlier this week, I was compelled to take these three roses out of stock and put them together along the walkway. Now I want to offer them to you for your garden – they look sensational together!

Because Valentine’s Day is around the corner, we’ll post these three and pop in one of the very best flowering red roses – maybe Mr. Lincoln or Papa Meilland or La Sevillana FREE!

FOUR SENSATIONAL ROSES DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR – $160

If you take up the offer, you’re welcome to select which red rose you’d like or leave it to me! Only the very best will be posted.

Another giggle ...

Q: What did the porcupine say to the cactus?

A: Are you my mother?

Pesky White Fly

We, along with many gardeners have had issues with white-fly this season – they’ll do damage to foliage just like this:

We recommend you apply Eco-Oil and Eco-Neem combined at recommended rates according to the quantity of spray required to cover your roses and veggies, fruit trees and ornamentals.

Here, we sprayed at first sighting of white-fly and then again five days later. We’re diligently watching and have cut all seeding grasses around the nursery area because that’s where the white-fly live!

Once foliage is obviously impacted by white-fly damage, it’s best to trim the affected foliage and soak plants with Eco-Seaweed to promote quick recovery of new leaves.

There’s always sure to be challenges each season… please know that we use and highly recommend only Eco-Organic products because we have successfully, economically and totally effectively managed our nursery and gardens for more than 30 years… organically and naturally!

Have a great week in your garden! Gra, Diana, Mooi and the team at Silkies Rose Farm
