Hello Dear Rose Friends,

What an amazing experience it was to be situated in the magnificent gardens at Broughton Hall – if you ever get an opportunity to visit during one of their open days, do make the effort. Retrospectively, I’m truly sorry I didn’t take more time to photograph some of the amazing trees and interesting, rare plants so that I could ID them and purchase them for our garden.

Broughton Hall garden is simply spectacular, and we were privileged to stay overnight in the new B & B which will be available soon – such luxury!

We’re getting ever-so-close to freezing mornings which will stall flowering on our roses but while they’re experiencing lovely sunny days, they’re flowering prolifically, and we may even get some nice flowers into May for Mother’s Day which is still a few weeks away!

HAVE A GIGGLE

Q: What do you call a short Mother?

A: Minimum

At every opportunity, I’m dousing the pots in my ‘research and development’ area with Eco-seaweed solution. Pots in the nursery which I feel need a bit of a boost get an extra bit of TLC because I would love to see nice flowers for as long as possible. Remember, seaweed solution is NOT FERTILIZER but rather a tonic for all-round wellness for all plants!

OPEN HOUSE AT SEASONAL CONCEPTS ...

Nestled amongst the gum trees as a backdrop, roses bloom abundantly facing north over the Goulburn River at 805 Upper Goulburn Road, Whiteheads Creek –

Open house seasonal concepts

But, there’s more to this pic … when the French doors open, there’s a plethora of curated antiques and old wares to be enjoyed inside so a visit can suit all palettes … the gardener and the collector will be enthralled by a visit to Seasonal Concepts!

Ken will welcome you from 9.30am till 4.30pm on this Saturday and Sunday (other times by appointment) where you can wander along the rows of roses and select a bunch to take home or gift.

Visit www.seasonalconcepts.com.au for more information and contact details.

DRIVING ADVENTURE ...

With the weather looking favourable for a driving adventure this weekend, take the Clonbinane exit off the Hume Freeway to Silkies Rose Farm where you can join a WALK AND TALK TOUR IN THE GARDEN WITH GRAHAM. There are no set times, just come along and learn a bit about roses and gardening in general.

After selecting your FREE ROSE (see offer below) you’ll re-enter the freeway and take the next exit at Broadford, immediately turning right towards Strath Creek/Flowerdale.

This magnificent drive will take you to the Murchison Gap where you must stop to gasp at the breathtaking view over the Valley of a Thousand Hills …

You’ll be looking for a coffee and bite-to-eat so continue on down the valley to Strath Creek General Store and enjoy the very best local fare!

Satisfied and ready for another adventure, drive along the King Parrot Creek Road towards Kerrisdale and turn left onto the Goulburn Valley Highway towards Seymour. Just beyond Trawool, turn left into Upper Goulburn Road and ‘Seasonal Concepts’ is not far along on the right …

This wonderful round trip concludes when you drive through the hamlet of Tallarook where you rejoin the Hume Freeway and head home.

All visitors who purchase a rose at Silkies Rose Farm on Saturday and Sunday this weekend may take a FREE ROSE from the POT LUCK section of the nursery – rose plants where labels have fallen off!
