ROSE RAMBLER 3rd March, 2022

Published by Rose Sales Online on 3rd Mar 2022

Hello Dear Rose Friends,
We are now in the most beautiful season for gardens and gardeners - autumn!  It won’t be too hot now to start planting roses you might have had stored in pots during summer, just as we did this past weekend …

How exciting to finally plant LADY OF AUSTRALIA, our premier new release rose for 2022!

Lady of Australia is a unique floribunda rose with a classic-shape bright yellow fragrant flower, showing ruffled petals when fully opened, fading to lighter yellow/cream on the outer side and revealing beautiful yellow stamens.

The plant is healthy and highly disease resistant, very free flowering with dark green foliage.  Height: 120cm - Width: 100cm

Bred by Bruce Brundrett, it's named ‘Lady of Australia’ to celebrate the wives of the Governors-General of Australia.

Rather than plant into established garden beds, we created a new garden which is very close to the house and we had a great team of helpers, including chief supervisor, Mooi and grandson, Cooper …

We planned to plant 2022/23 New Release roses into the gardens this autumn so I had products ready just in case I wasn’t here during digging and planting.

There was our own ‘ homegrown’ compost which had been stored for several months, some bio-char blended with organic fertilizer and Eco-seaweed solution was poured over each rose immediately after planting along with very deep soaking of the entire bed during the afternoon.  Eighteen new roses were planted.

The more goodness you add to the soil at planting, the greater chance new plants have of settling in well and giving you years of joy in your garden so be generous with the size of hole you prepare, blend compost, microbes and seaweed products at planting and always mulch the soil!

Now is the perfect time to plant spring-flowering bulbs like daffodils, tulips (after a few days of cold storage in the fridge crisper) and since I got my first delivery of bulbs earlier this week, I’m off to a flying start.

My bulbs were beautifully packed with shredded paper around them – rather than spill that in the kitchen where I opened the box, I took the parcel to the recycle bin and removed the shredded paper.  I then went back to the kitchen to check I received all the bulbs I had paid for … drat, two packs missing so off to the recycle bin. We could see the bulbs on the floor of the bin so we got a broom to retrieve them.

Later that evening, I asked Diana to ring my phone as I had misplaced it. This is actually funnier than any joke I could share with you this week …

There’s no moral to this story but boy, did we have a great giggle!

With the floods in northern Australia, please know that if you need advice about the restoration of your garden, please send pics and your story to info@rosesalesonline.com.au and we’ll give you all the assistance we can!

A GIGGLE FOR YOU:
Q: Why did the gardener change his mind about gardening even though he wasn't fond of it?
A: Because the plants grew on him.

ONE MORE GIGGLE BEFORE YOU GO:
Q: Why didn't anyone laugh at the gardener's jokes?
A: Because they were too corny.
