ROSE RAMBLER 27TH FEBRUARY, 2020 … Hello dear rose friends as we say goodbye to summer and with open arms, welcome all the joy of autumn in our magnificent garden.

As you might imagine with the internet being so global, we get lots of requests for roses to be sent around the world. When Steven requested us to send him Diana, Princess of Wales to USA, we told him of quarantine restrictions which prohibit us posting a beautiful rose so he left this message for ALL of us …

"I do understand. I had one once, but they have become rare in the USA. We ordered some seeds but have been unsuccessful in our attempts to get them to even sprout. Any secrets to growing from a seed? I hope everything is going to be ok in your homeland. Our prayers are with you all."

Naturally, I responded …

"Hi Steven ... thank you for your kindness! We are ok here at Clonbinane 60ks due north of Melbourne city – many parts of our beautiful country along the eastern seaboard are devastated. However, Aussies stick together and help one another – we sent our first boxes of roses to a fire ravaged garden yesterday – we’ll be rolling lots of roses out in weeks to come.

Growing roses from seed is hit and miss – biggest problem is usually too much water!!! If you set the seeds in damp media and cover, there should be little need for water until the seeds are sprouting … try that! Best wishes … Gra"

Here are three of the most fragrant and beautiful roses flowering in the nursery this month...

SCENTIMENTAL ROSE - Only 6 available!

The Scentimental rose has an intense spicy Damask rose fragrance and to make a real statement with this rose in the garden, it should always be planted in a group – nobody would ever walk past and keep their mouth closed … this is a real oooh, aaah rose!

ELLE ROSE

This Elle Hybrid Tea Rose produces the most amazing bounty of perfectly formed blooms constantly. Raised by Meilland, France, this wonderful rose is not really well known yet but it will stand out as one of the most free-flowering and extremely healthy roses which is ideal for the Australian garden.

THE BIG PURPLE ROSE

Big Purple - If you want BIG fragrant flowers this is the one. Big Purple is a Hybrid Tea rose with healthy matt foliage, producing huge dark grape coloured purple blooms which fade to cerise as they age.

Fragrance abounds in the above varieties so get on with ordering and planting a few new roses in your garden soon … www.rosesalesonline.com.au is open 24/7.

Jump in the car and come to Clonbinane for a visit soon – the gardens are lovely and you can wander around with your camera and take photos of the roses you add to your winter ‘wish list’ – we’ll be opening our online store soon for bare-rooted roses … there’s always something to look forward to!
