ROSE RAMBLER, 24th JULY 2020

ROSE RAMBLER 24th July, 2020 … Hello Dear Rose Friends as we send this email from a ‘locked-down’ Rose Farm at Clonbinane which is located in Mitchell Shire, 60kms north of Melbourne.

Today, with limited staff due to mandatory mask requirements, we packed roses – two of us wear glasses and were constantly frustrated by fogging. Young Rylee, who is very new here at Silkies Rose Farm, laughed at Janelle and myself huffing and puffing, trying to adapt to our new situation. She got on with the job and we could see her smiling eyes!

While you’re reading this Rose Rambler, Graham is travelling into South Australia with a permit we lodged early in July requesting access to collect another large consignment of roses from our growers there. Now we might finally have varieties which are holding up so many of your orders!

We are sorry for the delays this season and promise to honour every single order which has been placed. In coming days, we will be contacting you if there are varieties which just cannot be supplied. There are thousands of roses available to fill your orders and we can recommend substitutes so that you grow a beautiful rose garden – please trust our judgement on substitutes!

It’s been hectic and I’ve adapted to wearing a face-mask – next week we will submit a pic of all of us here and I know, despite out lovely country fresh air, we’ll tolerate the discomfort of wearing masks rather than try and breath on a ventilator in hospital!

In order to slow down online orders, we have a limited number of 15 varieties of roses available – this will be for a very short time – we request your understanding.

This week's giggle: Q. Why can’t a bicycle stand up? A. Because its two tyred.

Another giggle for you: Q. When is a car not a car?  A. When it turns into a garage …

It would have been great to get a video about pruning roses to you but this hasn’t been possible, so I recommend you prune your roses any time now. Remove at least two-thirds of all branches, take out all old, dead wood. Be confident that no matter how you prune your roses, they’ll grow and flower this coming season!

During late spring/early summer, I’ll do video pruning sessions with you on You Tube to correct any issues. Meantime, follow the head/heart rule – do what you think is right for the roses and they’re sure to respond beautifully.

Sending best wishes to you all … thank you for your continued patience and most especially, thank you for your kind emails, your loving wishes for our wellness … talk to you next week - Graham, Diana, Mooi and the team.
