ROSE RAMBLER 10th SEPTEMBER, 2020 … Hello Dear Rose Friends, here in Victoria we enter another stage of lockdown, yet from our beautiful gardens at Clonbinane it all seems quite surreal. Our thoughts are with all residents of greater Melbourne, who must endure more weeks of restricted activity!

Our beautiful Gift Rose has become a means of people reaching out to their loved ones; letting them know that despite being unable to visit in person, a beautiful potted, gift-wrapped rose with a message expressing their loving thoughts arrives in the post.

Due to extreme overload at Australia Post, some of our rose parcels have been delayed …
"Hi … Just a note to let you know the lost rose finally came last week (and had new leaves on it), so did the other rose, my friend absolutely loved it even though it was nearly two weeks after her birthday (thanks Aus post)! I feel bad that you had to give me another rose without me paying for it, but it will remind me of your thoughtful generosity. Thank you again for caring."

"The rose was in superb condition, despite sitting in a box for nearly a month and they were packed brilliantly. Warm Regards …Julie"

Another testimonial …
"Today you delivered a Mothers Love rose to my friend whose mother died recently. I just wanted to say thank you - the rose was beautifully presented and delivered on the day requested (not easy in the current lockdown)!"

Just one more …
"Hi - Have just received my parcel of roses for myself and a client Very pleased with quality and health of the roses and look forward to doing business with you again in the future Lovely catalogue Cheers Sue

I thought this was a funny one.... Q. How does a train eat?  A. It goes chew chew!

In these trying times, best we stop and have a quiet moment to smile; have a giggle! I long to be able to go to our local café, chat with my mates or sit quietly with a latte and study articles to share information with you about gardening.

I have written this quote in my diary … “when the world wearies and society does not satisfy there is always the garden”

EARLY SPRING ROSES

Here are three magnificent climbing roses which will delight you for years clambering and flowering over fences, along trellis or over arches in your garden …

Jeanne la Joie, Min. Clb.: Now I find myself here at the Rose Farm enjoying the garden even more. The first flowering rose this season is Jeanne la Joie – a climbing rose – miniature in flower, not growth! One of the first roses we planted on our front veranda posts at the cottage in Kilmore which is now the Rose Café … what a sight to wake up and see this beauty screening our bedroom windows from the street! Soul Mate: The first roses this season may appear a different colour to what you originally expected – this happens as a result of cold temperatures … Soul Mate’s first blooms this season …
Later on it will be as per the label suggests – warm yellow … Shop Now!

Hot Cocoa: One rose which doesn’t really ever change throughout the seasons – hot or cold, this beauty is always a delight because it changes from bud opening right through to petals dropping … Hot Cocoa is such a magnificently healthy, robust rose … Shop Now!

Enjoy the glory of green grass, green leaves emerging on deciduous trees and your roses well-foliaged and preparing to set flower buds for this impending flowering season. If garden beds aren’t yet mulched, it’s time now to get a nice layer of straw/lucerne mulch around your roses – until this season’s new roses have a good cover of foliage, keep any light coloured straw mulch well away from the base of the plant. Reflective sunlight can cause burning.

One last giggle:
Q. Do you know how many famous men and women were born on your birthday?  A. None, only babies ..

Best wishes to you all from us here at Clonbinane … Graham, Diana & Mooi.
