Hello Dear Rose Friends,

With the temperature hovering at around 7 degrees a few mornings recently, we are thinking that autumn is just around the corner which, in fact, it is! Gosh, but how time flies …

If you haven’t fed your roses very recently, with autumn fast approaching, it’s time to do so now. Here’s an email exchange:

Good Morning folks … I'm in need of some advice:
What rate do I feed my roses with pelleted chicken manure considering I have hardwood chip mulch under them all please. Thanks, Bob

MY RESPONSE …
G’day Bob … all types of fertilizer would have different rates of application so follow directions on the pack! Usually, if it’s just chicken manure, a couple of handfuls per plant sprinkled OVER the mulch and then watered in will be adequate.

Next time you’re buying fertilizer for your garden, get a product that has all the major nutrients NPK plus trace elements and minor nutrients – a complete package of fertilizer – a bit like you eating three balanced meals a day with meat and three veg for dinner, of course!

The lovely people at your local garden centre will recommend the best they stock. Hope this is helpful. Cheers … Gra

We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Fran’s awesome gardens and she most definitely grows magnificent roses and shares some very interesting observations in this story!

BUY ONE, GET ONE 1/2 PRICE - MONICA & TINTERN

SPECIAL OFFER THIS WEEK ...

For a mighty splash of vibrant colour, these two fabulous roses are so complimentary because they are both delightfully fragrant and very different in growth habits.

Monica is a typical Hybrid Tea, creating brilliant cut flowers with long strong stems. Tintern will flounce around covering almost a metre of ground only 75cms tall; both are almost never without flowers so would be fabulous if planted together - sensational display in a large 50-60cm tub if you don't have space in your garden beds!
