Hello Dear Rose Friends,
Another week just flew by as excitement builds here. Every day there are more flowers opening and it’s been amazing to note how cool/cloudy conditions slow things down but oh, when the sun shines lovely and warm, the blooms open.
Apologies to customers who have emailed and/or tried to place orders this past week – we’ve had massive technical issues and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the problems.
It’s our experience that if your order won’t process through a mobile phone, try using a computer and bingo, the order goes through. As we all know, when technology works, it’s brilliant but gosh, when things go wrong, the frustration level is immense!
… I’m sharing some interesting exchanges but have a giggle first:
Q: What has 22 legs and two wings but cannot fly?
A: A football team!
SHOULD YOU PICK THE FLOWERS ... ?
"Hello there! I love my roses although they are a lot of work here in Sydney!! I tend to pick almost every bloom to enjoy inside. Does this do the rose bush any harm?
Anne"
MY RESPONSE … Not at ALL ... definitely pick them and the more you do, the more they'll want to produce for you and the fresher the new foliage is ... leaving daggy old foliage/spent flowers on plants in humid locations causes issues ... you're definitely doing the roses a massive favour! And, of course, you get the joy of having them in vases in the house! Keep doing what you're doing ... cheers
Thank you, you said exactly what I’d hope you say!!!!!! Anne
CURLY FOLIAGE ON 'NAHEMA'
Greetings from Newport 2106! All my roses from you are doing great except for a problem with my two NEHAMA climbers which have leaf curl. I grow all my roses in pots with daily drip irrigation and this is the first sign of trouble and it’s only on the two climbers. No sign of aphids or any other bugs. Blooms are great but the leaves are curling? Wilting?
When I repotted a couple of plants recently there were several curl grubs (we call them mulligrubs) in the pots so maybe I should use a weak insecticide? Best regards, John
My response to John:
Not a single issue … exactly what you’ll read in our description of this magnificent rose … it gets everybody in! Enjoy the flowers and don’t worry about the foliage as it’s perfectly ok … cheers
John responded: So when all else fails— read the instructions!
MORE ABOUT GLYSOPHATE ...
Hello I'm a fan reader from Italy.
I would like to share a recipe with you, so glyphosate is just never! justified.
mix a gallon of white vinegar, one cup of salt, and one tablespoon of dish soap
but perhaps you know about this already.
Glyphosate does not leave the soil and kills life within and eventually us.
Thank you for your newsletter. Claudia
We know there are quite a few different recipes for destroying weeds in your garden, there are also some environmentally-friendly products you can safely use and our experience is they work brilliantly well when hot sun is shining of the weeds when you spray.
But, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a good weeding session in your garden! Don’t overdo it … spend half an hour of bending and pulling out in the sunshine and fresh air, then take a break.
We know that weeds will more readily extract from the soil during certain moon phases; the calendar for which is in Better Homes & Gardens magazine and worth having on hand each month – give it a go!
A giggle for you ...
Q: What’s another name for a wasp?
A: A wanna-bee!
