Hello Dear Rose Friends,
As I’m typing, there’s immense tension in the air … a massive thunderstorm is brewing – will we get a great drench of rain on the garden? A lovely drop after a few days of pretty intense heat and with most of the roses summer pruned, they’ll enjoy the goodness of lightening and rain to ‘wash their pretty faces’ after days of dusty wind!
During the very long drought when there were severe water restrictions, one of our beautiful customers, Bert, told us that he would sneakily turn the tap on just to wash his roses pretty faces … some things you never, ever forget!
With February usually the hottest month on our garden calendar, we expect to be a little more quiet than usual with rose sales however, that isn’t happening this year as lots of customers are getting in early ordering their bare-rooted roses for this coming winter at www.rosesalesonline.com.au
If you need advice selecting varieties or perhaps a bit of design guidance, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with us – info@rosesalesonline.com.au
Diana loves nothing more than designing a rose garden!
Lots of people are confidently ordering our potted roses ready to be planted in the garden where you can expect them to continue flowering through Summer, Autumn and well into Winter. GIFT ROSES are still immensely popular too.
Unfortunately, we’re still trying to sort a way to post bare-rooted standard roses – our current quotation for a standard rose box to be sent with StarTrack will be $60 - $71.50 – there might be just one or five standard roses in the box but we think this is extreme and so are researching different delivery methods.
You will note, meantime, that all standard roses in our online store are listed as out of stock – we do have lovely standard roses available for PICK UP ONLY from here at Silkies Rose Farm, Clonbinane or, of course, you can organize your own courier.
Being within just ONE KILOMETRE of the CLONBINANE INTERCHANGE on the HUME FREEWAY, 60kms north of Melbourne, our nursery is well placed for courier collections and we happily work with drivers outside of open times in order to get our lovely roses to you! PLEASE NOTE that APPLE MAPS takes you to a non-existent address way out on the Clonbinane Road towards Anderson’s Gardens picnic area.
GOOGLE MAPS has our destination correctly appointed right beside the Hume Freeway at the Clonbinane interchange with north and south entry and exit.

WHEN CONDITIONS AREN'T QUITE RIGHT …
We planned to send Susan lots of the magnificent ground-covering rose LITTLE WONDER for planting in her Queensland garden this autumn but here’s her story …
Good Afternoon, I hope you have had an enjoyable start to the new year. Contrary to earlier predictions we have had many wild storms and big rain in South East Queensland this summer. The weeds have grown so high, everywhere looks like it’s out of control.
Unfortunately, we’ve also experienced a lot of erosion with the big downpours of 300mm and we now need to build retaining walls in a number of areas to hold the soil back.
The earthworks guys are so busy and with everywhere being soggy and boggy it’s going to take 6months + before we can get the work done.
There’s no way I can plant the roses until the garden is properly retained with sandstone blocks. We’ve already lost too much soil. I’m disappointed but I have to be patient and practical given the circumstances.
Thank you for being understanding … Sue
We’re very sorry that Sue has been inundated and understand she needs to recover her garden prior to planting any roses!
We now have an abundant supply of this amazing ground cover rose which is flowering, ready for immediate planting. Little Wonder is so very adaptable in all conditions, multiplies readily with minimal attention and stays very low, flowering absolutely continually …
TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE - LITTLE WONDER
Little Wonder is an absolute little ripper of a ground covering rose with one plant spreading low over an area at least 1.5 metres wide but staying low, hugging the ground and flowering non-stop over an immensely long season.

Q: Why don't grapes snore when they're sleeping?
A: They don't want to wake the rest of the bunch!
Have a lovely week in your garden and p.s. our garden got a lovely drenching and our roses had their pretty faces washed!
