Edition 1ST MAY, 2025

1st May 2025

Hello Dear Rose Friends,

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased roses during the past month! We still have around 750 magnificent potted roses and will continue to sell those and then in July this year, we’ll add a complete selection of varieties to be sold ONLY from our online store www.rosesalesonline.com.au as potted specimens.

We will not be supplying bare-rooted roses this winter as we prepare to sell our property here at Clonbinane.

There will be a completely brand new, more easy-to-use, functional website and our product range will more than double when we re-open www.rosesalesonline.com.au in July, 2025.
In the meantime, we will continue to produce this Rose Rambler newsletter and keep you all well-informed and giggling each Thursday so please don’t unsubscribe your email address! The Rose Farm here at Clonbinane will continue to function every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9am until 4pm until such time as the property is sold and settlement takes place. Then the nursery will close unless there is somebody interested in having a nursery at this site.

Well, “the time has come, the walrus said” … it will be an interesting time for us as we begin the next phase of our lives in retirement but you can be sure I’ll still be here doing lots of research, poking around with rose-breeding and I’ve got roses to send into the Rose Trials at Adelaide Botanic Gardens in July – those seedlings of Black Caviar are lovely.

Actually, some months back, we posted free specimens of those seedlings and I wonder if any of you have some feedback for me, please?
HAVE A GIGGLE ...
Q. How come koalas carry their babies on their backs?
A. They can’t push a pram up a tree!
ORGANIC ROSE MANAGEMENT SPRAY
… with cool, damp nights, it’s important to continue using the Organic Rose Management spray program to preserve healthy foliage for as long as possible at this time of year – remember, more foliage = more
flowers!
To 1 litre of water, add:
  • 1 level metric teaspoon (4g) of Eco-Fungicide powder
  • 5 mls Eco-Oil Insecticide (add 2mls Eco-Neem if pests are visible)
  • 4 mls Fair Dinkum Seaweed Gold (or any seaweed following pack instructions)
Once blended, the spray must be used immediately and applied over foliage to runoff at least monthly or more frequently at critical periods like now. Apply spray early in the morning, avoid spraying flowers (due to discoloration), and never spray if the temperature is expected to exceed 30 degrees!
MOTHER’S DAY
We have some gorgeous potted roses still flowering so head to www.rosesalesonline.com.au and let us post a beauty to your Mum … here are a few suggestions:
