ROSE RAMBLER 9TH SEPTEMBER, 2021

Hello Dear Rose Friends,
It’s been an anxious wait for roses to be delivered - lots of our customers were impacted by the recent debacle that occurred due to Covid cases detected in Mail Distribution Centres in both Melbourne and Sydney.

We hope that all the roses are now delivered.  Australia Post Management requested we stop posting last Thursday 2/9 and they promised to clear the huge back-log of parcels.  We started posting again from last Tuesday, 7th September.

If you still don’t have your roses, please continue to be patient. Here's another good reason to remain calm and wait for your roses to arrive …

"Hello, I wanted to say a big thank you for the roses I bought from you over the phone. They are going to be absolutely stunning.

Due to your excellent packaging, they survived Australia Post.

Australia Post are being terrible with all deliveries at the moment and it took 18 days (normally 2-4 days) to get to me and I was not very hopeful of the condition they would arrive in.

But thanks to your care, the roots were still damp and all we have is a very small amount of pale growth.

I am just writing to let you know the fortunate outcome and hope your other customers do as well.

Thank you again - Diana Spa"

Don’t hesitate to lodge a complaint as I find this moves parcels a little more quickly than when left to languish until somebody takes notice …

Oh, how I would love to jump in a pack with the roses …

Here I go …“ride in the back of Gra’s Subie down to the local PO, if I’m a Gift Rose, I get to sit in the front seat!  Once scanned by the folks at Wandong PO, I’m loaded off in a red postie truck; get onto the conveyor belt at the North Melbourne distribution centre. From here, I’ll be loaded on a huge truck and drive to another destination, possibly interstate.

Sometimes, I might wing-it and get on a plane to get there even faster?
Once there, I’ll check-in at another mail distribution centre and after several more circles on the conveyor belt and drives around the place, I finally arrive at your place …

Phew!  Definitely soak me in seaweed solution for an hour or 24 until you’re ready to plant me … this has been and continues to be a journey for all of us!"

Delightful to watch ABC Landline and see Aussie farmers reaping the rewards of magnificent rain events around the country – record prices for their stock and crops. Good luck to every one of you!

Here at Clonbinane, we’re a soggy, sodden place once again but boy, when the sun shines, I can almost see the roses growing so it’s going to be an amazing season of flowering.

During the rain events, I’ve been feeding my flowering daffodils and other spring-flowering bulbs which have flowered prolifically. You be sure to do the same!  Leave the foliage to die down completely because the energy from this foliage goes down to the bulb and guarantees prolific flowering next season.

Potted Roses

All our roses are now potted to ensure they produce lots of solid water-shoots. This guarantees masses of flowers for years to come. Once planted in your garden, they’re now trimmed right down to within inches of their lives – we’ve done all the work!

Of course, we leave branches on some plants of each variety but that’s really only ‘bragging’. How much better to receive your plants professionally pruned, potted in our magnificent coir-fibre potting media, fertilized and conditioned with seaweed solution. This ensures they transit beautifully to your front door and are ready to be displayed on your patio or planted into your garden where they’ll flourish for many years to come!

JOKE THIS WEEK:
Q. How do you know carrots are good for your eyes?
A. Because you never see rabbits wearing glasses!

Essentials to Produce Lots of Rose Flowers

Spring is the optimum time to give your rose plants quality organic fertilizer to produce masses of blooms for the rest of the season.

Organic fertilizer builds strength in stems which transfers to flower petals and will only be taken up by the plant when the bush needs nutrients.

Liquid seaweed sprayed on the leaves and over the soil, acts as a tonic which strengthens the plant during this rapid growth period.

Mulch like lucerne or pea straw feeds soil microbes and is essential to stop soil erosion and moisture loss during coming heat cycles.

These few simple steps will reward you with abundant, healthy foliage which in turn, will supply beautiful flowers to adorn your garden and kitchen bench for months to come.
