ROSE RAMBLER 9TH APRIL, 2020… Dear Rose Friends as the days turn into weeks and we all get used to isolation and technology becomes a very dominant part of our day in order to stay in touch with loved ones and friends … will life ever be the same as we were used to?

We know it’s Easter because there are four little bunnies rampaging through my kitchen veggie garden; safely housed under the small garden bungalow. When I rang my brother-in-law Albert what to do, he laughed and laughed! Diana remembers sitting on burrows after he’d let a ferret down … we don’t have ferrets or a cat to control these little blighters so if any of you have a good idea, please tell me what to do?

Rain may have spoiled lots of your flowering roses so go out and trim all the sodden, mouldy buds off – best they don’t fall down onto the mulch where mildew spores may settle and then infect new foliage next spring! Let Gra show you what to do:

Pruning before winter to produce more flowers.

To avoid mildew / blackspot issues on rose foliage until roses become dormant and ready for winter pruning, we highly recommend you do the organic spray management program now and again in 7-10 days:

  • ¼ cup Eco-Fungicide (same product)
  • ¼ cup Eco-Oil (insecticide, yes there are aphids!)

Add your seaweed product to the above and shake vigorously then pour or spray over foliage to run-off – remember what I’ve said over and over … the more healthy foliage covering your rose bushes, the more beautiful flowers you’ll have so it’s worth protecting the foliage during these humid conditions. Drench over the mulch too!

Q. What should you do to prepare for all the Easter treats? A. Eggs-ercise!

Do take a look at our new website www.rosesalesonline.com.au where there have been a few glitches but we ask you to be patient knowing that once we get it all right, we’ll be set to offer you a lovely place to order roses in future.

Here are a few emails to share:

'Hi Diana …I think there may be a couple of extra 0s added to the cost of your beautiful roses on the new website. Coming up as $3250.00 Worth every penny! Monica'

Then this from Virginia, to which Diana promptly responds…
'Hahahaha watched the video of Graham in his veggie garden... budding TV presenter I reckon... only maybe smile at the end while you watch Diana drop the camera! LOL. I am rushing out now to seaweed my veggies.'

'Thanks for the cheerful weekly rambler. I love it. Shared your joke from this week far and wide... so daggy, but so great. Cheers Virginia'

Virginia … I’m laughing soooo hard – I thought IT team might have edited the end of that video – just as well you didn’t hear me swear when I couldn’t turn the bloody phone off ‘video’ … love it! And yes, I did say that he should smile and not take this all so seriously … giggling hard now! Talk soon and thank you!!!

One last sharing …
'Hi Graham and Diana, My beautiful Edgar Degas potted roses arrived in good condition. Thank you. Is it OK to leave the roses in their pots for a few months? Can’t get to my holiday house to plant the roses due to Mr CoronaVirus!!! Regards, Judi.'

Hi Judi … I giggled at the Mr. Coronavirus … how funny that you have gender specified it! I reckon it’s a beast whatever … I suggest you pot up into larger pots – it might be months before you can plant out into the holiday house garden so take care and keep seeing the bright side! Cheers and thanks!

We wish you a Happy Easter – it will be different, there’s no doubt about that, but see the bright side – take a walk in your garden with family, pick a rose for a vase … be happy!
