Hello Dear Rose Friends,
When we celebrated our family day last Saturday we stayed close to the warmth of the fire indoors… If the overcast, cloudy weather continues, we’re sure to flower later than in previous years. We all know there’s not a thing we can do about the weather but adapt; our roses will and they’ll flower when the sun shines again soon!
A giggle for you …
Q: How do you cut down a tree just by looking at it?
A: You saw it with your own eyes.
Spectacular beauty all around with magnificent blossom on our fruit trees and buds forming on deciduous trees – no doubt, a spectacular time in our garden here at Clonbinane!
Australian Bred Roses Stamps
Be sure to purchase this lovely set of stamps to be released by Australia Post next Tuesday, 13th September. Apparently they’re scented which makes them even more interesting!
We stock three of the roses listed so we’ll offer them as a ‘special bundle’ for one last bare-rooted rose bundle this week…

We’ll post this magnificent bundle of bare-rooted roses for just $99.50 delivered to your door for planting in your Aussie garden to celebrate the incredible diligence and persistence of our Australian Rose Breeders!

Standard Rose Care
There’s nothing more pleasing than to see a row of neatly staked standard roses flowering stately and prolifically. However, more often than not, these magnificent specimens are not staked or tied as they deserve. Now is the time to be sure to check that stakes and ties on your standard roses are adequate to cope with flowering this season.
Here's a picture of a standard rose which was (probably) attached to the stake with electric cable tie – never, ever use this product on any roses! We’ve seen it used to secure standard, weeping and climbing roses to supports with catastrophic results... NO!
Since rose stems thicken as they age, electric cable tie does not ‘give’ and so will most definitely cause strangulation.
The best tie material is one which will disintegrate over time – this means, of course, that you must be diligent in checking ties every six months or so. Remove the old tie material and replace with fresh ties.
Always incorporate the rose stem to the support – never tie directly around any rose growths as they definitely thicken with age!
As roses are now rapidly growing and producing foliage, checking plant ties on standards, weepers and climbing roses is very, very important – DO IT NOW to save yourself from being one of those customers who calls us to report a damaged weeping or standard rose. Perhaps wondering why your climbing rose has died along one part of its former spectacular glory!
One more giggle ...
Q: How did the tree access the internet?
A: It logged on
Just a reminder that some varieties of bare-rooted roses are still available until last posting on Monday, 19th September so get your order in NOW!
Hope you enjoy glorious sunny weather in your garden and your new roses are producing lush, healthy foliage with a promise of beautiful flowers soon...
Cheers from the team at Silkies Rose Farm, Clonbinane.
