How We Post Roses

Our garden looks sensational right now with all the deciduous trees in leaf and all the different ‘greens’ are vividly obvious – the conifers with their new foliage are a sight to behold.

Hope you have marked this date on your calendar when we’ll also have a very special promotion happening here at Silkies Rose Farm – I’ve seen the other gardens and they’re truly amazing!

It can look a bit daggy around your garden when you see the daffodil foliage limp. However, don’t ever cut that foliage off because you can be sure that every bit of energy in the foliage is going back down to the bulb and exponentially multiplying the bulbs!

Now is a good time to fertilise any bulbs which flowered this past spring because they’re now sending all their energy into the bulb for next seasons flowering.

If you want to be tidy, you gather the foliage in bunches and tie it over with a loose string. The foliage will wither quite quickly but even before it’s completely gone, you can pop a layer of pea straw mulch over it. But honestly, if you remove daffodil foliage now, you’ll not see a single flower on those bulbs next season!

A giggle for you ...

Q: What kind of bean never grows in a garden?

A: A jellybean!

How We Post Roses

During winter bare-rooted season, we had lots of calls/emails from customers who thought they only received one rose – the roses are beautifully and safely packed together – when the bundle was opened, we all had a giggle!

Now the roses are potted so this is what happens:

"Hi Diana, One box has arrived on my front verandah with 2 roses, just checking that you sent in 2 x boxes & somehow they have been separated temporarily. Thank you very much, cheers … Susie"

Within an hour, another email from Susie:

"Hilarious – found 4 pots in there – well done. Thank you. Cheers …Susie"

Yes, we can post two roses in one box, then securely tape three boxes together so a total of SIX POTTED ROSES can be posted to you in each consignment!

Go browsing at www.rosesalesonline.com.au as we have enabled another forty varieties of potted roses for you to select from! Many are budding up and almost flowering so it will be like creating an instant rose garden when you purchase roses NOW.

Enjoy the experience and if you have an issues with your online purchasing, please call 0418 337 765 during our open times:

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY and MONDAY: 9AM – 4PM

Or email: info@rosesalesonline.com.au or silkiegardens@bigpond.com

We’ll bring you news of roses which achieved success at the National Rose Trial Ground Awards and other newsy bits we gain from meeting with rose breeders and growers at the World Rose Convention in Adelaide.

Ben, Jason and Janelle will post the Rose Rambler next week and they’ll be given an opportunity to select their favourite roses for the promotion in coming weeks – it’s wonderful to have their input too.

In the meantime, we hope you back a winner in the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday!
