ROSE RAMBLER 27TH JANUARY, 2022

Published by Rose Sales Online on 27th Jan 2022

Hello Dear Rose Friends,
As we head into the final week of being CLOSED here at Silkies Rose Farm we also say goodbye to the second month of summer. We’re confident we will then open the nursery to our lovely customers.

It’s been a journey; we’re staying well here, hope you can say the same and we were thrilled to read the responses to commencing this Rose Rambler connection with you all – thank you!

Potted Roses

Potted roses in the nursery look sensational as we pruned them before Christmas expecting the Rose Farm to open with a flurry of excitement which hasn’t happened.

Perhaps you’d like to purchase roses and have them posted so we’re offering this very special rose to plant in your garden ready for flowering to honour the Tobruk Siege of World War II which took place in Northern Africa and lasted from April to December in 1941.

$2 from the sale of each rose is dedicated to Descendants of The Rats of Tobruk Australia Association Inc to help fund various veteran-related projects.

Summer Fun

We turned the hoses on this past weekend when grandkids came to play; they set up a slippery slide in the shade of one of the oak trees. What fun we had running around trying to hose each other whilst the garden got a soaking!

Go out and get wet with your kids in the garden this weekend while it’s still hot because you’ll have a ball and the kids will go back to school and tell a great ‘summer holiday memory’ … squirting everyone who played in the garden!

A GIGGLE FOR YOU:
Q: What was the highest mountain before Mt. Everest was discovered?
A: Mt. Everest!

David Austin Roses

This past season, there’s been an unprecedented interest in the David Austin selection of roses so many have been disabled for purchase in the online store for quite some time.  It then becomes a surprise to visiting customers when they find a variety they truly wanted.

So, because we can’t open yet, here’s a list of some DA roses which are indeed still available but in very limited numbers and are now enabled online at www.rosesalesonline.com.au

Abraham Darby, Charlotte, Golden Celebration, Grace, Graham Thomas, Jude the Obscure, Lady of Megginch, Mary Rose, Molineux, Munstead Wood, Pretty Jessica, Roald Dahl, Sharifa Asma, Summer Song, The Alnwick Rose, The Poets Wife, Tranquility and Wollerton Old Hall.

If, when you go to purchase any of the above and they’re listed as unavailable, you weren’t quick enough so you’ll definitely need to pre-order for winter 2022 delivery.

ONE MORE GIGGLE THIS WEEK:
Q: What runs across the floor without legs?
A: Water.

Summer Mulching

Usually, by this time of year, our gardens are still well mulched with quite a thick layer of straw but this summer, because of the unusually wet seasons I think, our mulch has disintegrated much quicker so we’re topping up around the gardens again.

You’ll be quite amazed at how the soil retains moisture and static temperature with a good thick layer of mulch so please, do your soil, plants and the environment a favour, reduce your water bill and mulch your garden!

Have a great week in your garden. See you soon at Silkies Rose Farm, Clonbinane … Graham, Diana, Mooi and the team at Silkies …
