Hello Dear Rose Friends,
Contrary to all my best laid plans, some of our lovely customers still don’t have their pre-ordered roses for planting this winter however, those that have, are excited by their new roses …
Good Morning, I thought I would send you a couple of pictures of the new growth on the roses you posted me. I pruned them as instructed and they are flourishing beautifully. I also snip banana peel and put them around the base (you can see it dried black in one picture). We eat a lot of bananas and the roses seem to like it.
Thanks for lovingly preparing your roses!
Joy
And this time next week, it will be spring so we keep reminding everybody that “it’s never too late to plant a bare-rooted roses” and we’re not telling fibs…
When we shifted our rose nursery from Silkie Gardens Rose Nursery & Café, Kilmore (where the business was first registered in 1986) to our home here at Clonbinane back in 2012, we had to reinvent our business. I decided to start selling potted rose plants all year!
Yes, I took them from the pot, wrapped the roots in damp newspaper, trimmed all or most of the flowers off and posted them. It was a success…
Since those early days, we invented boxes which allow us to securely post the entire potted plant … we can actually post six potted roses in one consignment! It’s innovative, creative and it works!
If you’re at all concerned about planting your pre-ordered, bare-rooted roses, it’s a cinch for us to post them to you in a pot.
Our endeavour is to have happy customers and you’ll be thrilled if the rose variety you ordered is the one you receive – it may be in a pot but you will receive what you ordered – that’s our commitment to you after this most incredibly difficult winter!
After weeks and weeks of constant rain, our gardens are saturated so we’re sure to have a bumper flowering season and we’ll still be pruning our roses during coming weeks – it’s never too late to prune roses!
Let's start with a giggle …
Q: What kind of pole can't you climb?
A: A tadpole!
I’m so glad we manage our gardens using biodynamic and organic principles because frogs abound and compete to wake us each morning along with the Thrush and Cuckoo-shrike. All signs that spring is near …
Hi guys, My order of bare root roses arrived this week and I just finished planting them all out! Can’t wait to see them thrive. Thank you again for all your wonderful help! I noticed in the Rosarian you included in the order the advert for Diana’s book. I jumped online to get a copy and it’s out of stock - do you have any idea roughly how long before it’ll be available again? Thank you! - Stephanie
