Celebrate the Gardens of Clonbinane!
Hello Dear Rose Friends,
Welcome to summer - we know the sun will shine and dry up all the rain!
We’re excited that this weekend 5 of our Clonbinane gardens are open for you to come and celebrate with us. Even more exciting is that it’s going to be a sunny 27 degree day – weather we haven’t had at all during this past spring so don’t bother bringing your gumboots – sunscreen will be the order of the day.
Please, if you don’t trust weather reports and want to turn up at the last minute, that’s fine – drive up to the Clonbinane Community Hall where our CFA members and community residents will take your payment, give you a map and set you on your way.
Whilst you’re at the Community Hall, have a cuppa/scone/cake and be sure to take a ‘pit stop’ there because there are definitely no toilet facilities available at any of the gardens!
There’s a BBQ between midday and 2.00pm - the best sausages you could ever wish to eat! Made from our very own Clonbinane Belted Galloway cattle at Warialda Beef, you’ll want to line up on Saturday for this treat!
There’s no doubt that this current inclement weather has caused issues for roses which are usually beautifully leafed-up and flowering at this time of year.
Every moment the sun shines through the clouds, we relish it because we know the roses are gasping for the sun!
We have everything in place for our roses to flourish when they arrive at your place for planting in your garden:
- Magnificent two year old rose plants in great potting mix with ‘Living Earth’ added so that every grain of media holds onto moisture and nutrients for the life of the rose whether it stays in a pot or is planted in your garden
- OCP organic rose management spray program used when weather is suitable for application – usually every 7-10 days whilst the sun refuses to shine and night temperature remains cold
- top-dress of Complete Organic Fertiliser – balanced NPK fertiliser with added trace elements which are essential for every aspect of healthy rose growing and soil structure – source a quality product in your locality
- drench of Eco-seaweed and Eco-aminogro liquid feed – bonus treat for the roses whilst they wait desperately for warm sunshine
- professionally pruned bushes to ensure strong, healthy branches carry masses of rose blooms in coming months
- more than ample moisture from constant rain.
Don’t be fooled into thinking your roses are wet enough – once the weather heats up, be sure to deep soak each plant with no less than 20 litres per week!
A giggle for you ...
Q: When will water stop flowing downhill?
A: When it reaches the bottom...

So if you bring a picnic lunch, call in and sit out on the lawn or under the trees and enjoy a latte or cappuccino served by Jason… barista extraordinaire!

Gardens of Clonbinane
We’re looking forward to hosting you and your family this weekend at Clonbinane – organize to spend the day with a few friends enjoying our magnificent gardens just 60kms from Melbourne GPO and an easy drive from most places in Victoria.
Do be sure and put your ‘rose coloured’ glasses on when viewing roses – see the beautiful magnificence of the flower rather than how the foliage on some varieties looks right now in this “once in a hundred years” weather event.
State Rose and Garden Show
Yes, the State Rose & Garden Show has been rescheduled to Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December and we’ll be there!
