ROSE RAMBLER 18TH AUGUST, 2022

Published by Rose Sales Online on 19th Aug 2022

Hello Dear Rose Friends,

... And the rain keeps tumbling down but we press on with packing roses and hope that eventually, more varieties can be dug from sodden soil – this of course, now becomes a manual task which is extremely time consuming and physically, it’s hugely demanding!

Rather than hold up all orders, we’re posting many parcels with beautiful substitutes –same colour and growth habit just a different name!

When I emailed Sandy to advise the rose variety she ordered simply wasn’t possible to supply this season, she responded:

Dear Diana, Thank you for your email and for explaining the process of growing your roses for sale. I didn't mean to offend you I was just very disappointed. Thank you for sending me one you have in your garden... I will take good care of it!

Yes, I went and dug one of The Alnwick Rose plants and posted that but of course, I can’t possibly do that for every customer.

During summer and autumn when we start to take orders for bare-rooted roses, we can see the roses growing well – this past growing season was unusually cool and then it rained and rained and rained... We cannot foresee every single variety but we did expect that some wouldn’t make the grade and we won’t sell inferior plants!

We already know that next year will be a bumper year because the roses we cannot dig this season will be left to grow for another season and they’ll be wonderful specimens... There’s a positive side to everything if you look for it!

Let's start with a giggle …

Q: What falls down but never gets hurt?

A: It lost its petals.

We would certainly welcome more sunshine and less rain drops here at Clonbinane as water tanks are overflowing, the Sunday Creek is up and we’re sopping wet... There’s more rain in the foreseeable forecast so if you’re planning a visit anytime soon, please wear suitable footwear!

Successful Delivery of Weeping Roses Interstate

Last week we ran a trial with Rangeview Plant Transport collecting weeping roses and ring/pole support kits from Silkies Rose Farm, Clonbinane to be delivered to destinations in NSW. One customer met Rangeview at an agreed place outside of
Canberra, the other customer collected his roses from the Sydney depot which
was cheaper than having them delivered directly to his home.

This is not a cheap exercise however, Simon had 4 weeping roses and support
kits plus 5 climbing roses in his pack which cost just under $300 and he only had to drive a short way from his home to meet the driver.

As he said, if he put a price on his time and fuel, the cost to collect the roses from us here at Clonbinane, would have been way higher!

We have magnificent weeping roses and support kits so if you want us to organise a quotation to have these spectacular plants delivered as far north as Cairns, please call 0418 337 765.
