Hello Dear Rose Friends,
Well, the sun was shining and the wind prevailed for a couple of days to give us a little bit of opportunity to dig most of the standard and yearling roses which will mean we can assure that you’ll receive your roses before the end of August … we sure hope so!
We’re definitely seeing signs of ‘spring is in the air so when you receive your pack of roses as we approach warmer weather conditions, it is imperative that you ensure the roses are attended to immediately.
If you are unable to plant the roses when you receive them, please unwrap them and place them in a bucket of water with the sachet of eco-seaweed provided – they can stay there for a few days. However, if you can’t plant the roses into the garden after say, 48 hours of soaking, then I recommend you pot them into a 20-30cm pot until their garden bed is ready.
Put the pot out into a sunny location and water daily unless it rains. After 4-6 weeks, it will be ideal to fertilize the newly potted roses but plant them into their ‘forever home’ whenever it is timely to do so.
It is never too late or the wrong time to plant a potted rose into a garden bed which is why we post our lovely roses all year!

PRUNING ROSES LATE
Several customers called in a bit of a panic about not having their roses pruned but I’ve reassured them there’s no need to be concerned. If you don’t get a full winter prune of at least 2/3rds during the last weeks of winter (August), then do a more severe prune during summer.
Usually, we recommend 1/3 pruning after the first spring flush but you could then take at least 1/2 which will mean your bushes will remain tidy and manageable and still produce lots of blooms.
Maybe you’ve got space to cover an area of a shed or fence to plant a climbing rose and below it, there’s a lovely section of the garden which would be perfect to plant two gorgeously fragrant David Austin roses.
This is the final rose package for this 2021 winter bare-rooted rose season.
Twilight Glow Climbing Rose: A magnificent climbing rose with masses of blooms which display serrated petals of warm apricot blooms. When open, the flowers are huge and slowly fade to cream with a light fruity fragrance.
Roald Dahl David Austin Rose New Release for 2021: This rose brings to mind images of “James and the Giant Peach” with its soft orange buds that open to medium-sized, perfectly cupped and robust rosettes of a perfect apricot with a fruity Tea scent. The plant matures to an attractive well-round, healthy bushy shrub with few thorns.
Olivia Rose Austin: Named for David Austin’s granddaughter, it commences flowering very early in the season and continues well into autumn. Medium to large fully cupped roses of an even mid pink which have a good fruity fragrance and sit on a very healthy, well balanced bush.
May your roses arrive soon and you enjoy planting our quality roses in your garden this winter. We’re taking a break from the RR until spring because we’ll be so busy tending to packing and posting your roses and that’s no joke!
