Hello Dear Rose Friends,
Sorry that we didn’t post a Rose Rambler last week as the week seriously flew by with lots of orders to be posted after the long weekend of Melbourne Cup.
A week earlier, we received an emailed picture of a rose we’d recently posted with buds covered in aphids which prompted immediate action!
I made up a 500ml sprayer with just 3 mls Eco-Neem and 5 mls Eco-Oil and sprayed every single rose before it went into a box. I believe we had invisible larval-stage aphids which hatched in transit … little blighters!
I’m sharing this story because you don’t have to make up 10 litres of spray just because that’s the recipe. You make whatever quantity of the spray you need, that is adequate for your garden or number of rose plants. We generally make 50 litre batches to spray the nursery pots.
Once you’ve sprayed the roses, if there is still product in the sprayer, cover your fruit trees, azaleas, veggies that might incur mildew (tomatoes, pumpkins, broccoli, etc.) but never, ever throw the residual mix away! Once mixed, you cannot store the spray for later use.
I was absolutely amazed at how such a small quantity of Eco-Neem and Eco-Oil into the 500ml hand-gun sprayer was effective and how many plants I covered and protected for transit; the leaves were brilliantly shiny too … win-win!
Glorious fragrance and flowers at every turn! Our potted roses are looking stunningly healthy, the gardens are a picture and we’re free to meet with family and friends again – life is grand!
