ROSE RAMBLER 5TH MARCH, 2020… Hello dear Rose Friends as we warmly (pun intended!) say goodbye to summer and welcome the most glorious rose season … autumn.
With cooler nights and significant rain events in some areas, it is imperative to continue the Organic Rose Management Program at least fortnightly to ensure healthy, well-foliaged rose plants which are sure to produce masses of beautiful roses throughout autumn and well into winter. That means, another three months of flowers which will only happen with frequent spraying and fertilising!
Here at Clonbinane, we had our first frost last Thursday 27th February – yes, the last days of summer and our garden was freezing! This can and will happen in many areas so you need to be aware of prevailing weather conditions in your area and act accordingly.
Remember, prevention is better than cure – also remember that well-foliaged roses will produce masses of blooms.
Here is the Organic Rose Management Program:
To 10 litres of water, shake well the following products then spray or pour-over to run-off
- ¼ cup ECO-ROSE (FUNGICIDE)
- ¼ cup ECO-OIL – insecticide and surfactant (makes spray products ‘stick’ to foliage)
- 1 tsp ECO-SEAWEED (or your preferred seaweed product – follow directions on pack)
If you want to give your roses a real treat, add some liquid fertiliser to the mix and this will act as a foliage fertiliser – still use solid fertiliser over the soil though!
Q. What time is it when five dogs chase one cat? A. Five after one.
With good attention after an incredible summer, your roses will delight you during the next three to four months of flowering.
I’m only going to feature one rose this week – Thank You … It really is important to be thankful for all the greatness we have in our lives.
The THANK YOU ROSE produces masses of very fragrant deep mauve blooms in clusters all over a very healthy, well rounded shrub continually throughout the season - a lovely rose to gift when you want to say a significant "Thank You" to somebody special!
Please take my advice and spend some time pampering your roses in the next few days so that you have a blooming gorgeous rose garden throughout the next three months of autumn.
