ROSE RAMBLER 27TH AUGUST, 2020 … Hello Dear Rose Friends from our little piece of paradise where we feel protected and where spring is definitely right around the corner with frosty mornings and glorious sunny days. We can barely wait to smell the fresh spring air as it soon approaches. With spring comes the butterflies and birds that always brings a rejuvenating lease on life, something we can all appreciate during these trying times.
Q. What music frightens balloons? A. Pop Music…
...an extra joke making up for the fact that we skipped the RR last week in favour of working flat-out to get the last winter orders packed and posted.
Just as well we did because it's chaos within Australia Post here in Victoria, despite them doing everything they can to deliver on time. The volume is enormous. At our local Wandong Post Office, parcels line the aisles of the shop and people are waiting patiently for their parcels to be found amid the piles.
Father's Day Roses

This is undoubtedly one of my favourite times of the year – daffodils are flowering under trees, on borders of rose beds, in rockeries and tubs around the garden. I just love them!
Now that spring bulbs are up and flowering, this is the best time to fertilise them. You must never cut the foliage of these bulbs when the flowers finish as the energy within the leaves stores back into the bulb. Next season, the bulbs will have self-propagated and there will be even more flowers – exponential growth for just a small handful of quality fertiliser per square metre or clump of bulbs.
With all the moisture, we’ll have to be diligent with snail baiting this spring. We use and highly recommend an Australian product: ERADICATE. It is safe for pets/birds and for use in an organic garden.
Enjoy a bit of a giggle: Q. What race is never run? A. A swimming race!
We hope you are all travelling well and staying healthy! Warm, sunny days make getting outdoors a whole lot more inviting so get out and pull a few weeds every day, pick some flowers for a vase in the kitchen and stay positive in your thoughts.
Best wishes from Mooi and the team at Silkies Rose Farm, Clonbinane …
