ROSE RAMBLER 28TH JANUARY, 2021

We're Back! Happy New Year!

Hello Dear Rose Friends! Apologies for sneaking an extra week of holidays.

In 35 years, our business has never been closed for more than a few days during Christmas/New Year so, after nearly five weeks, it seems like forever since we’ve communicated with you and we thank you for your patience.

There’s been a lot happening

Unfortunately, Graham was not very well from the end of last year, requiring hospitalisation and careful management by an amazing team of doctors. Graham is now home and recovering, he’s getting there and glad to be back.

We urge you all to be diligent in the extreme whenever one of your loved ones begins prescribed medications!

Welcome to all the new subscribers of Rose Ramber who visited our website during the holiday period! I trust you’ll enjoy my ramblings to ensure you grow the loveliest of roses in your garden – organically, naturally!

Let's have our first giggle of the year  ...
Q. What’s red, round and juicy, has toes but no feet?
A. Tomatoes.
(Yes, the jokes might be ‘sick’ but they’ll give you a giggle I’m sure!)

Here are a few things I thought to remind you of as we travel through summer:

  • When watering roses, always deliver at least 10 litres of water per rose at each watering, ie: deep-soak every time you water to actually save water;

  • Fertilise with quality organic fertiliser around each bush every 8-12 weeks – if water is scarce, don’t fertilise until it rains;

  • Continue to trim spent flowers – if you do this regularly, the more readily the bushes will produce another lot of blooms and fresh foliage;

  • Never spray the organic rose management program when the temperature is expected to exceed 28-30 degrees;

  • Seaweed solution poured over rose foliage at least once a month will reduce heat-stress and encourage more flowers during summer;

  • When picking flowers for a vase, take a bucket of cold water – trim flowers and dunk immediately; store in a cool place for a few hours before placing in a vase and renew water every couple of days – trim stems at each water-change;

  • Top-up mulch regularly to retain moisture, reduce weed infestation and ensure worms stay in the upper levels of soil to leave their castings as fertiliser.

There are still lots of roses available for purchase here at the Rose Farm now that we are open again every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9am – 4pm.  Please understand that phones are only manned during opening times. Emails are responded to within 48 hours.

Rose Sales now has our bare-rooted roses available for purchase at 2020 prices! During February, all the 2021 New Release Roses will be introduced to our website and the bare-rooted price of all roses will be increased at that time.

If you need advice selecting varieties or perhaps some assistance with rose garden design then please email your details and enquiry so that we can make selecting roses for your garden a pleasure – we each have 35 years of rose gardening to share with you – info@rosesalesonline.com.au

Enjoy being back at work… see you here at Clonbinane some time soon!  Graham, Diana & Mooi
