ROSE RAMBLER 13TH FEBRUARY, 2020 … Hello dear Rose Friends as we apologise for the minor glitch in last week’s newsletter and promise to get it right and give you a SUMMER ROSE PRUNING demonstration by Graham …

By following my advice and summer pruning at least one-third off each rose bush during coming weeks, you’ll be sure to have a spectacular autumn display of flowers, be guaranteed to have roses blooming right up to winter dormancy and:

  • Your rose bushes look tidy, well-cared-for and retain a manageable shape
  • New growth is always lush and healthy
  • Removing hips (seed pods) and spent flowers means plant energy will be used to create more blooms

Since you’re out in the garden and it’s been quite humid in most areas recently, be sure to apply a handful of quality fertiliser around each bush and spray with the organic rose management program:

To 10 litres of water add:

  • ¼ cup Eco-Rose / Fungicide (same product different coloured pack)
  • ¼ cup Eco-Oil (reduce to half quantity in hot sunny weather)
  • 1 tspn Eco-Seaweed (or other seaweed product according to pack directions)

To the above recipe, you can also add some foliage fertiliser – remember, none of the seaweed products act as fertiliser – they are a plant and soil tonic!

Shake products vigorously together and spray over foliage to run-off. You’re sure to enjoy a spectacular autumn display of flowers in your garden after all this attention!

Q. Why can’t a bike stand up by itself? A. Because its two-tyred.

THREE OF MY FAVOURITE RED ROSES...

and they’re all very highly fragrant, that’s for sure!

TATJANA

Hybrid Tea rose bred by Kordes, Germany. One of the most magnificent dark red roses which is very easily identified by a slash of white on one of the petals deep inside the bloom. Awesomely fragrant, extremely robust and healthy, flowering from season start to end continually. The flowers last well in a vase where the exquisite velvet petals open slowly when picked in bud.

MR. LINCOLN

MR LINCOLN is a Hybrid Tea Rose which hardly needs any introduction as it is the most commonly requested dark red rose and in our 35+ year history in offering rose plants for gardeners to plant in their gardens, yes, you guessed it, this is the MOST HIGHLY SOLD HYBRID TEA ROSE - year after year!

CAMP DAVID

Hybrid Tea dark red rose and one of the most stunning! This rose is one of the most abundant Hybrid Teas, producing the darkest red, red roses - no purple in this beauty as I refer to it as 'brown red' ... it stays dark red all the way through to petal drop and it has the most glorious fragrance.
